digital art effects everyone.

assignment.#2

Digital art is changing western culture, as we know it. Everything can now be perfected digitally. There aren’t any limits to what one can do in the art world. People are making art easier, and faster. The artists mark isn’t always there and It doesn’t matter. It’s opened up thousands of new ways to make art. It’s broadened the definition of “What is art?” People are now making art with anything and everything. It doesn’t stop at the art world though. Advertising has grown in a way unimaginable. The digital video has improved and is more accessible.  Reality and imagination have combined in a way that at times it’s hard to tell the difference between the two.

You can’t escape from advertisements they are everywhere, and they pop up and they talk to you and they move around, and it’s all thanks to digital art or new media.  I guess they’re more interesting than they used to be. But still I think this is just the beginning, soon we will all just be looking a giant talking, moving advertisements rather than cityscapes.

Video games, films, cartoons, have all been impacted by digital art. None of those are what they used to be. Video games look as real as movies, cartoons aren’t 2 dimensional, and movies special effects don’t look like effects anymore.  The surreal looks real because of digital art.

Digital art is the future. There will always be the need or want for traditional art. But I think digital art has changed the way people view art like the MP3 changed peoples view on music. People can now get music for free, they can carry it around wherever they go, its easy, its accessible, its cheap. I see digital art in the same light. People who didn’t initially think they could be artists now have a plethora of mediums to work in and all they have to do is buy the equipment. I think it’s great there are some many cool things being made all the time. Everything is art, everyone is an artist, and I think it’s the way the world should be.

more puff daddy please…

assignment# 4

unforgiven-woman-11

What makes this ad successful you ask?

it has very nice warm colors making it pleasing to the eye and  it suggests that if you use such an amazing fragrance that men like puff daddy won’t be able to resist you. and  they might just maul you in the middle of a stairway. and who doesn’t want that?

How does the ad utilize formal elements to convey meaning?

the majority of the piece is all in the same hue but varying in value creating a unity through out the whole piece. They also create a contrast in color between the bright white lettering against the the darker tan color. making the words and the picture of the fragrance really pop out. they use repetition with the “Sean John” signature. In the top left part of the ad the color is really bright and almost white which creates a balance for the white lettering and picture of fragrance at the bottom.

How does the information flow?  How are you visually led through the image?

It flows from top to bottom. at the top of the ad you see the 2 people kissing then your eye moves down to the bright white small print in the middle of the ad that is the tag line for the fragrance, “life without passion is unforgivable” then as your eye moves down again there’s a picture of the product and it’s name in big letters “UNFORGIVABLE WOMAN” tying together the title and the tag line. In between the letters of the title you can see that the couple are holding on to a hand rail in a stairway and the line created from the hand rail sends you back up to the center of the ad.
